Moment Rescue Dog Helps Paralyzed Sibling Fetch Ball: 'So Pure'

Knowing his doggy sibling is not as fast as he is while playing fetch, one canine goes above and beyond to include him in the game, and the clip of this has gone viral.

Two weeks ago, a family in Wisconsin adopted Kona from Albert's Dog Lounge, a rescue specializing in providing homes to seniors, special needs and hospice dogs. The paralyzed dog didn't have a single adoption application for seven months, the family told Newsweek via TikTok. However, all it took was one meeting for them all to fall in love with Kona.

The family brought Kona home to a house filled with other dogs, with one canine in particular taking to him: Morty, whom the family adopted a few years ago, started helping Kona immediately.

With both dogs loving the game of fetch, Morty made it his mission to assist Kona, as seen in the July 1 TikTok video posted to the account @paisleysays. Morty retrieves the ball as Kona slowly follows behind. His back legs do not work, forcing him to pull himself across the grass with his front legs.

Attentive to Kona's disability, Morty still lets him participate and makes him feel like he is as much a part of the game as any other pup. As the caption reads, "Dogs' hearts are so pure," and Morty is proof.

"When Morty feels like the ball is thrown too far, he retrieves it and drops it at a reasonable distance for Kona to retrieve," the owner said.

In the clip, Morty drops the ball close to Kona and then stands by happily. He watches with excitement and patience as his new doggy sibling participates in the game.

However, it won't be long until Morty won't have to lend a helping paw. "Kona is slowly learning to use his wheelchair, so we're hoping they'll both be running around together soon!" the owner said.

'Best Brother Ever'

With over 777,300 views and almost 100,000 likes, the TikTok clip quickly tugged at people's heartstrings over Morty the dog's sense of awareness and kindness.

"Inclusion at its finest. Making playing ball accessible for all," posted one viewer.

Another added: "The best brother ever."

A third person pointed out: "I love the way the dog didn't drop it directly in front of him so he could still feel accomplished."

Someone else wrote: "I used to work in rescue and you should try using a silk pillowcase over his rear end! It'll help him slide across the grass quicker! He'll love it!"
