Kelly Ripa Reveals She Once Almost Died Having Sex With Mark Consuelos

Kelly Ripa has shared a racy, almost near-death experience about an incident in which she passed out during sex.

The talk show host revealed passing out during lovemaking with her husband Mark Consuelos, and woke up in an emergency room due to an unexpected medical condition.

The 51-year-old shared the bizarre anecdote in her upcoming memoir Live Wire: Long Winded Short Stories.

The Live with Kelly and Ryan host wrote about a 1997 incident in which she passed out during sex because of large cysts on her ovaries not long after the birth of her first child.

The chapter, "Don't Let Your Husband Pick Your Death Clothes," details the amusing but deadly situation.

The chapter is titled as such because when she came to in the emergency room, she realized she was wearing a 1980s-style French-cut leotard and so-called red "f*** me" Manolo Blahnik stilettos.

"Also, here is my husband, who is, dare I say, stylish, well-dressed at all times, and yet he dressed me like a dime store prostitute in my time of need," she wrote in an excerpt published by Haute Living.

"It's still baffling to me to this day that this is the best costume for the day that he could find for me, to the point where, when I was on the stretcher, I thought I was dreaming; I was having a nightmare. I didn't realize I had come to."

"Sex can be so traumatic I think, and yet one of us is completely undaunted," she added. "There he is, happily munching on the saltines now and ordering a second apple juice. Mark could be at a movie, or a spa. Instead, I'm flat on my back wondering when the other two cysts will burst."

Ripa and Consuelos celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary in May. They share sons Michael, 25, and Joaquin, 19, and daughter Lola, 21.

Speaking to the publication, Ripa praised her husband who she said was her "biggest champion" during her book writing process.

Speaking of their marriage, she said: "You have to have a yin and a yang, right? Mark is so quiet in the way he goes through his life, and yet he married a blowhorn, if you will.

"I am this open book who will even turn the pages for you if you don't keep up, and yet he allowed me to share these intimate moments because frankly, I think he found them entertaining. At the end of the day, I don't think he would still be in this marriage if he didn't find me entertaining."

Live Wire: Long Winded Short Stories is released on September 27, 2022.
