Herschel Walker Slammed by Son Following Report He Paid for Abortion

Herschel Walker, the GOP nominee for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, has been slammed by his son on social media following the publication of a report claiming that he paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion.

The Republican candidate and former NFL star, who has made his opposition to abortion rights a central campaign issue, strongly denied the claim on Twitter and vowed to file suit after The Daily Beast published an article on Monday claiming that he paid an ex-girlfriend to get an abortion in 2009. His son Christian Walker soon weighed in and accused his father of "lying" and "violence" in a series of tweets.

"I know my mom and I would really appreciate if my father Herschel Walker stopped lying and making a mockery of us," Christian Walker tweeted. "You're not a 'family man' when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence."

"I don't care about someone who has a bad past and takes accountability," he continued. "But how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you're some 'moral, Christian, upright man.' You've lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you."

Christian Walker also tweeted that "every family member of Herschel Walker asked him not to run for office" due to his past but "he decided to give us the middle finger and air out all of his dirty laundry in public, while simultaneously lying about it.

"I'm done," added the Republican candidate's son.

About one hour later, Herschel Walker issued an apparent response to his son's remarks, tweeting "I LOVE my son no matter what," without responding to any specific allegations.

The Daily Beast reported on Monday that a woman who asked to remain anonymous claimed Walker had urged her to get an abortion and later paid for the procedure. The woman reportedly provided the outlet a $700 personal check from Walker, a "get well" card from him and a receipt from the abortion provider as evidence of her claim.

Walker, who opposes abortion without any exceptions and has called for a national ban, responded to the claim by calling it "another Democrat attack" and a "flat out lie." He promised to file suit against The Daily Beast by Tuesday morning.

"I deny this in the strongest possible terms," Walker said in a statement shared to Twitter. "This is another repugnant hatchet job by a democrat activist disguised as a reporter who has obsessively attacked my family and tried to tear me down since this race started... It's disgusting, gutter politics."

"I'm not taking this anymore," he added. "I [am] planning to sue The Daily Beast for this defamatory lie. It will be filed tomorrow morning."

The Daily Beast previously reported that twice-married Walker has a total of four children, all from different mothers, including two children whose existence he allegedly lied about while denying rumors to his own campaign staff.

Polls have suggested that the race between Walker and incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock could be headed for a photo finish. The polling analysis site FiveThirtyEight rates the contest a "toss-up," giving Warnock a 54 percent chance of defeating Walker as of Monday evening.

Newsweek reached out to the Herschel Walker campaign and Christian Walker for additional comment.
