Golden Retriever Forced to 'Retrieve' Owners Staying up Past Bedtime

A dog's way of alerting her owner to her bedtime has tugged at the heartstrings of viewers online.

Golden retrievers may be known for their love of fetching toys and sticks, but what they have perhaps not gained attention for has been retrieving their owners when it is bedtime. Kobe, a female golden retriever based in California, has changed that, after going viral for her unique way of telling her owner that it is time for bed. Kobe's owner shared a clip of the pet demonstrating her nightly routine to TikTok under @kobe_bang on July 6.

Viewers were able to see the dog gently tugging on her owner's wrist and directing her toward her bed, while an overlaid text on the video read: "Kobe never bites but when it's past her bedtime she'll retrieve me and take me to her bed." The post has been captioned: "Retriever retrieving her hooman to go to bed."

The dog was filmed letting go of her owner's wrist, which she had kept a gentle grip of throughout her walk to bed, once they had reached the bedroom that she sleeps in. The video ended shortly before Kobe's owner went to open the door of the room and settle her pet to sleep.

The sweet moment played out against a piano melody, drawing further emotion from moved viewers. In the comments, some of the post's 1.5 million-plus viewers have gushed over Kobe's bedtime routine.

"She is so gentle, she wants to snuggle," one user, @tiffbiffers, posted. "We don't deserve dogs."

Another, @jrijr75, added: "My black [Labrador retriever] does this when I pick him up from daycare. He wants to show me around to his friends." Kobe's owner replied: "Retrievers are truly the best breeds ever! So loving and kind, couldn't imagine life without my Kobe."

"Hey, she's just doing her job and bringing you what you want, even if you don't realize you want cuddles yet," a third user, @snagachef, shared.

Another, @leighannrichards6, added: "This is one of my favorite things about goldens! My friends pup used to take my arm and drag me further into the house 'so I wouldn't leave'. Such pure love!"
