Faceplanting Owl Leaves Internet in Stitches: 'We've All Had Those Days'

A video of a faceplanting owl has caused the internet to collectively giggle and laugh out loud.

The video was posted to TikTok on Thursday by Trent Shrader (@drtrentshrader), a 31-year-old veterinarian in Omaha, Nebraska. So far, the post has received more than 3 million views and over 426,000 likes, proving that people love watching animal videos.

As it turns out, there are a few scientific reasons as to why humans enjoy animal videos so much.

"The cute image delivers the brain a minuscule blast of dopamine, working the same chemical reward system activated by drugs like cocaine," CBC News reported.

In other words, these videos can "boost mood and concentration," the station explained.

A study conducted by the University of Leeds also found that "watching cute animals may contribute to a reduction in stress and anxiety," said, adding that each of the study's participants experienced decreased heart rates, blood pressure and anxiety levels.

"The study results are a fantastic reminder that we benefit massively from exploring and enjoying the natural world," Elen Thomas, United Kingdom Market Manager for Tourism Western Australia, said of the study in a conversation with Martha Stewart.

"The huge improvement seen in the mood and health of the participants is remarkable and a clear sign that wildlife experiences are important for our well-being," Thomas concluded.

In his video, Shrader showed viewers how to properly place an owl back into its kennel. To demonstrate, he uses one of his patients—an owl that recently underwent talon surgery.

"The areas that we need to be careful of are the wings, the beak and the talons," he explained.

"So to safely return them to the kennel...what you wanna do is secure the wings with your hand, have the face pointing away from you...and then you want to put their feet flat on the ground," he continued.

Shrader performs these steps, but the owl faceplants with a loud thud the moment its talons touch the floor of the kennel.

"Owls are top-heavy apparently," Shrader joked in the post's caption.

Shrader eventually managed to help the bird back onto its feet, but the owl wasn't happy. The video ends with the bird glaring at the camera from inside its cage.

As previously mentioned, a majority of commenters thought the video was hilarious.

"I cackled but I felt so bad about it," wrote MidgetKhajiit.

"THE FACEPLANT I'M DEAD," said K.

"I am responsible for approximately 153 of the total views on this," joked ShorebillyRN.

Ariel Taylor added: "We've all had those days."
