Dog's Reaction When Owner Puts Her Favorite Disney Movie on Melts Hearts

The internet has fallen head-over-heels in love with a dog who genuinely loves watching TV—and even has a favorite movie.

Pit bull Layla has become an overnight social media star as her owner, Mik, recorded her reaction to being asked if she wanted to watch The Lion King.

As soon as the title of the film is said, Layla, who is standing with a toy in her mouth, immediately runs in front of the TV, whimpering and whining in anticipation.

The clip then changes to Layla watching the opening moments of the 1994 Disney hit, unable to keep her eyes off the screen, and sitting completely still.

That is, until, Simba makes his first appearance, and Layla looks over her shoulder to her owner who coos: "It's Simba, Layla!"

Layla stands up, whimpering again, and goes closer to the screen for a better look.

Over the video, Mik wrote: "She literally will sit just like this for two hours and watch this whole thing."

And it's not just the original animated film Layla loves, either, as a later video shared to her owner's account @mikbre95 shows the pup just as excited to watch the 2019 remake.

Mik wrote: "I think she might like the live action Lion King better."

The original video has skyrocketed in popularity on TikTok, where it has been viewed 6.8 million times since being shared on May 30, racked up 617,000 likes, and prompted over 17,000 people to leave a comment.

One joked: "I feel like I could literally spend 2 hours watching your dog watching Lion King for 2 hours," and the official Disney account even wrote: "She's officially a part of the kingdom!"

A user pleaded for Disney to give Lion King merchandise to the sweet pit bull, and another declared they had just rented the same movie "based on Layla's recommendation."

One person insisted Layla "needs a raised bed high enough where she can lay comfortably and watch her favorite movies," and another pleaded: "Can you make this a whole series? My mental health depends on it."

Veterinarian Sandra C. Mitchell, writing for PetMD, writes that while dogs' eyesight is different to humans, they can see images on TV, but may choose to sit closer for a better look.

Thanks to dogs only having two types of color-processing cells, they also only see blues, greens and yellows—colors which feature prominently in The Lion King—but Mitchell states that, generally, dogs prefer real animals in motion to cartoons.

Many pet owners choose to leave the TV or radio on for their dogs when they leave the house, to help alleviate any loneliness the pooch may feel, and Mitchell states that, whether or not your dog enjoys TV, hearing the sounds may be stimulating enough to make time pass more quickly until their human returns.
