Dog's 'Olympic Dive' During Game of Fetch Amazes Internet

A video of a dog demonstrating "perfect form" while diving towards a ball during a game of fetch has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared from @kiwitheboston, the TikTok account of a Boston terrier called Kiwi and has amassed over 291,000 views since it was posted on June 26.

The footage shows a person throwing a ball across a grass field as Kiwi and another dog are shown racing after it. The ball ends up in a pond at the end of the field and the two canines are shown jumping into it, with Kiwi appearing to glide through the air before diving into the water.

A caption shared with the post reads: "This is an olympic dive if I've ever seen one."

While Kiwi's diving abilities may have been a cut above that of her canine companions, "all dogs run very similarly, no matter if they weigh two or eighty kilograms," according to a 2011 study by researchers from Germany's Jena University.

The study said: "Therefore it is not thigh and upper arm and lower leg and forearm that are correlated but the shoulder blade and the thigh, the upper arm and lower leg and forearm and middle foot.

"The center of rotation of the front legs is the shoulder blade which is only connected to the skeleton through the musculature. The actual shoulder joint stays nearly immobile in the dogs' process of movement," according to the study.

'Perfect Form'

TikTok users were impressed by the dog's athletic abilities and graceful form in the viral clip.

Dipper's Mom wrote: "Perfect form on the little guy!" User theway2 said, "What a jump for such a little man."

"That little dog has the heart and bravado of a big dog," said sstone733r.

"Best dog dive ever," noted wayne as user patioonthehill said, "10 out of 10!"

"That was the prettiest dive, from a dog, that I've ever seen!" said gabrielekendall35. ThatNoDakguy noted, "That was some air time."

Kellie said, "We need a slow Mo of that jump. That was awesome."

"Excellent jump!! Boston's are amazing at water jumps!!," noted tawanamusick.
