Zubritsky told Newsweek: "There is definitely a public misconception that pricier items are better quality or more effective; and this holds true across the board from clothing to furniture to skin care.

"I believe that marketing and packaging play a key role in why people are willing to splurge on expensive skin care, even if it's not proven to be any more effective than affordable products. In my opinion, the majority of the time, affordable skin care is equally as effective as those expensive brands."

In the video, Zubritsky said that her 'unsexy' products "ain't cute, but are gonna get the job done." She added that, although "you won't be seeing any of these products on a influencer's shelf," she would "swear by these products for myself and my patients."

Diaper Paste

This is perhaps a surprising product to find in a skin-care roundup. Zubritsky said: "If you don't use diaper paste for parts of your skin, you're missing out."

The product is functional for a huge range of concerns, with the dermatologist adding: "I absolutely love using a diaper paste cream for chaffing. If you're a sweaty girlie and your skin be rubbing together all summer long, you absolutely need this to prevent and to help heal that irritation."

Listing its many uses, Zubritsky said: "You can use it in the pits; you can use it in the underboob area, on dry, cracked heels. There's nothing that this cannot heal."

Cetaphil

Zubritsky recommended "literally any cleanser from Cetaphil" for those wanting to get their skin under control. Urging viewers of the video to stop risking their skin health by overusing strong products, she said: "Stop using cleansers that are full of active ingredients that are literally stripping and damaging your skin barrier."

Zubritsky added that "cleansers are meant to clean your skin." She said that the Cetaphil range is "so gentle, gets the job done." Created with sensitive skin in mind, the brand has a range of cleansers for all, from acne-fighting formulas to soothing foam washes.

Rogaine 5% Foam

A daily hair-regrowth treatment, Rogaine's 5% Foam features minoxidil as its key ingredient. This is known for its ability to encourage hair regrowth while slowing down and even stopping further loss.

Minoxidil works by extending the hair's natural growth cycle, as well as increasing the size of follicles, resulting in thicker, fuller locks.

Zubritsky said: "If you have hair loss, stop messing around with rosemary oil. This works for literally every type of hair loss: traction alopecia, hormonal hair loss, alopecia areata. It gets the job done."

Hibiclens

Hibiclens is an antiseptic known for its infection-preventing properties. The pink liquid is a chlorhexidine gluconate 4% solution, used topically for hand and skin disinfection. Zubritsky shared some surprising alternative ways to make the most out of the product.

The dermatologist said that "the real ones know to keep Hibiclens in their shower, ingrown hairs, shaving irritation, body odor; there's nothing this can't do."

Differin Gel

A product Zubritsky called the "absolute GOAT," the prescription-strength acne treatment unclogs pores while reducing inflammation.

Zubritsky said: "We want the most effective thing over the counter for fine lines, wrinkle and acne. You need to be using adapalene."

Adapalene, a retinoid derived from vitamin A, is instrumental in regulating cell turnover and fighting acne before it forms. Zubritsky said how the formula is "so strong and effective that it used to be prescription only. It's the only retinoid available over the counter; it will change your life, I swear."

While she can find a cheaper alternative to most products, there are some that are worth the extra money. Zubritsky said: "The few exceptions are antioxidants like vitamin C, which may be difficult to stabilize, products with proprietary ingredients, or more difficult to create ingredients like stem cells and exosomes."
