'The Crown' Season 5 Cast: Who Is in the Cast of the New Series?

The Crown Season 5 is currently in production and the upcoming series will see a brand new cast take on the roles of the British royal family. The fifth outing will pick up from the end of season 4, December 1990.

The next series will most likely follow the royal family throughout the 1990s, including the year 1992 which the Queen famously called her "annus horribilis." In the fifth series, fans can expect to see The Queen's golden wedding anniversary, Labour's Tony Blair winning the election, Prince Charles and Princess Diana's divorce, and the death of Princess Diana.

Just as fans were getting used to Olivia Colman portraying the Queen instead of Claire Foy, the cast of The Crown has changed once again.

The cast of seasons 3 and 4 said goodbye to their roles in 2020 and fans have been counting down the days for season five to arrive.

At the moment, Season 5 does not have an release date but the good news is, Netflix has confirmed the new series will arrive in November 2022.

The cast announced for 'The Crown' season 5 so far

The Queen—Imelda Staunton

BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton will replace Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown seasons five and six.

Fans will most likely recognize Staunton from her role as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films and Vera Drake in the film Vera.

Her other well-known credits include The Girl, A Confession, and Downtown Abbey.
After the news of Staunton's casting was announced in early 2021, Staunton said in a statement: "As an actor, it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan's scripts.

"I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion."

Princess Margaret—Lesley Manville

Bafta-winner and Oscar-nominee Lesley Manville will portray the Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, in the fifth outing of The Crown.

Manville will be taking the role on from Helena Bonham Carter, who had replaced Vanessa Kirby in the role.

After her casting was announced, Manville said in a statement: "The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don't want to let the side down. Furthermore, to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy."

Manville is best known for playing Lydia Quigley in Harlots and Cyril Woodcock in Phantom Thread.

Her other well-known credits include Save Me Too, World on Fire, and Mum.

Prince Philip—Jonathan Pryce

Game of Thrones legend Jonathan Pryce will take on the role of the late Prince Philip in The Crown season 5.

Prince Philip died on April 9, 2021. He was 99 years old.

The fifth outing of The Crown will most likely see Philip thrive in his later years by the Queen's side.

Pryce is best known for his role as Pope Francis in the film The Two Popes, securing his first-ever Oscar nomination.

The Crown fans may also recognize Pryce from his role as Sir Stuart Strange in Taboo and Cardinal Wolsey in Wolf Hall.

Diana, Princess of Wales— Elizabeth Debicki

Tenet's Elizabeth Debicki will take over from Emma Corrin to play Diana, Princess of Wales.

At the end of Season 4, Diana and Charles's marriage was on the rocks, with both sides embroiled in affairs.

Season 5 is expected to touch on Diana's tragic death following a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997.

Debicki's credits include The Night Manager, Peter Rabbit, and The Burnt Orange Heresy.

Prince Charles—Dominic West

After months of speculation, Netflix has finally confirmed Dominic West will be portraying the current heir to the throne, Prince Charles, in the fifth season of The Crown.

West is an English actor best known for playing Jimmy McNulty in The Wire and Noah Solloway in The Affair.

Audiences may also recognize him as Jean Valjean in the BBC's production of Les Misérables and Fred West in Appropriate Adult.

He will be taking over from Josh O'Connor who played the young prince in seasons three and four.

John Major—Johnny Lee Miller

The latest addition to The Crown season 5 is Johnny Lee Miller as John Major.

Major was the Conservative Prime minister of the UK from 1990 until 1997 and the leader of the Conservative Party.

Miller is best known to fans for portraying Sherlock Holmes on Elementary and Jordan Chase in Dexter.

He is also well known for playing Sick Boy in Trainspotting, Lucas Harper in Mindhunters, and The Captain in Byzantium.

Camilla Parker Bowles—Olivia Williams

Olivia Williams will replace Emerald Fennell in The Crown season five as Camilla Parker Bowles.

In season four of The Crown, Camilla and Charles's relationship continued to get more heated.

Williams is best known for playing Lavinia Bidlow in The Nevers, Lady Hamilton in The Halycon, and Liza Winter in Manhattan.

Dodi Al Fayed—Khalid Abdalla

Khalid Abdalla will take on the role of Dodi Al Fayed, the boyfriend of Princess Diana, reports Variety.

Fayed, a film producer and heir to Harrods, was sadly killed alongside Diana in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Abdalla is a Egyptian British actor and activist, best known for his role as Amir in The Kite Runner.

His father Mohamed Al-Fayed, a billionaire and the former owner of Harrods, will be portrayed by Oslo star Salim Daw.

Prince William—Senan West

Dominic West's real-life son Senan West will portray Prince William in The Crown Season 5, the son of Prince Charles (played by his father, Dominic West).

Variety reports Senan West will appear towards the end of the fifth season as William in his late teens.

The Crown will be Senan West's, 13, biggest acting role to date.

Princess Anne — Claudia Harrison

Humans star Claudia Harrison will take over from Erin Doherty as Princess Anne in The Crown Season 5 and 6.

Her casting has not been officially announced by Netflix but Harrison was recently spotted filming on a boat alongside Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II in the Scottish fishing village of Macduff.

Prince Andrew — James Murray

James Murray is set to take on the role of Prince Andrew in the upcoming series of The Crown.

He was recently spotted filming a scene alongside his co-star Claudia Harrison. The Cutting It star was dressed head to toe in a suit, wearing a wig mirroring the hairstyle Prince Andrew had in the 1990s.

Also rumoured to be starring in the series is Olivier Award winning actress Marcia Warren as The Queen Mother, Northern Irish actress Flora Montgomery as Norma Major, John Major's wife, Mayor of Kingstown's Emma Laird Craig as Sarah, Duchess of York, up-and-coming actor Sam Woolf as Prince Edward, Downtown Abbey's Andrew Havill as Robert Fellowes, the Queen's private secretary and Natascha McElhone as Penelope Meredith Eastwood.
