The first category to be announced was the nominations for Best Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture. The actors shortlisted were Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Andrew Garfield, Evan Peters and Sebastian Stan.

They were nominated for Black Bird (Egerton), The Staircase (Firth), Under the Banner of Heaven (Garfield), Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (Peters), and Pam & Tommy (Stan).

Best Supporting Actor in a Television Limited Series/Motion Picture was the category announced next, with F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus), Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), Richard Jenkins (Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) and Seth Rogen (Pam & Tommy) nominated.

Only Murders in the Building proved to be a hit in the comedy categories as stars Steve Martin and Martin Short were both nominated for Best Television Actor in a Musical/Comedy Series, Selena Gomez was nominated in the Best Television Actress in a Musical/Comedy series, and the show was also shortlisted.

FX show The Bear also received multiple nominations as it was shortlisted for best comedy series, and actor Jeremy Allen White was also nominated in the Best Television Actor in a Musical/Comedy Series category. One surprise snub was Ayo Edebiri being left out of the Best Supporting Actress category despite her standout performance.

In the comedy category, Reservation Dogs, FX's heartfelt comedy about four Native American teens who try to leave their reservation and head to California to fulfil their late friend's wish, was surprisingly not included.

Another series that was snubbed at the Golden Globes was Apple TV+'s Pachinko, which did not receive any nominations for its cast or for the show itself.

Better Call Saul came to an end with its sixth season in 2022, and the Breaking Bad spinoff received two nominations at the Golden Globes for Best Drama and Best Actor for Bob Odenkirk. His co-star, Rhea Seehorn, was snubbed despite her highly acclaimed performance as Kim Wexler.

Another surprise came with nonbinary actor Emma D'Arcy being nominated in the Best Actress category for their performance as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. While the nod may be welcome, the nomination misgenders the performer. It should also be noted that D'Arcy's co-star Olivia Cooke was not nominated for her role as Alicent Hightower in the HBO series.

Abbott Elementary earned the most nominations among TV series, with five nods, while The Crown, Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Only Murders in the Building, Pam & Tommy, and The White Lotus received four each.

In the film categories, the nominations were dominated by dramas like The Fabelmans, Babylon and The Banshees of Inisherin. The latter, Martin McDonagh's drama received the most nominations with eight nods. Action-comedy movie Everything Everywhere All at Once came second with six nominations in total. Babylon's five came as a surprise given the film has received mixed reviews ahead of its release on December 23.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water was also nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama, and it earned him a Best Director nod.

While Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for Best Picture, lead star Tom Cruise was not shortlisted for his return as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Jennifer Lawrence also did not receive a nomination for her performance in the Apple TV+ film Causeway.

Another key performer who did not receive a nomination was Will Smith, whose Apple TV+ film Emancipation was also shut out from the awards show. At the 2022 Academy Awards, Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock and the action led to him being banned from the event for 10 years. He stepped away from the spotlight until it came time, recently, to promote the new film.

Despite receiving some critical praise, She Said only received one nomination for Carey Mulligan who was shortlisted in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category. Ana de Armas' nomination for Blonde was also a surprise given the criticism the film drew for its fictional depiction of Marilyn Monroe's life. This was the film's only nomination.

The Good Nurse was also nominated for one award, for actor Eddie Redmayne, while Adam Driver was nominated for White Noise, the only nod given to Noah Baumbach's latest drama.

The Best Original Song category recognized the works of pop stars Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna alongside those of Alexandre Desplat and M.M. Keeravani. Swift was shortlisted for her song in Where the Crawdads Sing, Lady Gaga was for "Hold My Hand" in Top Gun: Maverick, and Rihanna was nominated for the song "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
