'Big Sky' Season 3: 'Deadly Trails' Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot

Big Sky Season 3 has released its new trailer, which gives fans of the ABC show their first glimpse of new cast member Reba McEntire.

Season 3 now has a September release date, meaning that the new season is just weeks away.

The ABC has plenty that is sure to excite fans coming this season. Jensen Ackles is also joining the cast, helping Cassie Dewell (played by Kylie Bunbury) and Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) in the show's latest high-action plot.

Deadly Trails is the official subtitle of the new season, and in the trailer we get our first glimpse of exactly how deadly those trails will big in Big Sky Season 3.

When Is Big Sky Season 3 Coming Out?

Big Sky: Deadly Trails premieres on Wednesday, September 21 (a new night for the show) on ABC.

Episodes are set to air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT, following ABC's sitcom block of The Conners, The Goldbergs, Abbott Elementary and Home Economics.

Episodes of Season 3 will come to Hulu the morning after they first air on ABC.

Who Is in the Cast of Big Sky Season 3?

Some big names are joining the cast of Season 3, with one of them getting pride of place in the new Deadly Trails trailer. Country icon Reba McEntire (last seen as the indelible Trish in Barb and Star Go Vista Del Mar) will play Sunny Barnes, a backcountry outfitter whose customers have a nasty habit of going missing. An ABC bio calls her character a "mercurial matriarch."

After first being teased in the last season finale, Supernatural's Jensen Ackles is joining the cast as new sheriff Beau Arlen. Also joining the Season 3 cast are: Luke Mitchell (Blindspot) playing Sunny's son Cormac; Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) as tech executive Avery; Seth Gabel (Fringe) as Montana recluse Walter; and Anirudh Pisharody (9-1-1) and Madalyn Horcher (Doom Patrol) as a New York couple who find themselves in the backwoods.

Returning to the show, meanwhile, are Bunbury and Winnick. They are joined by Jamie-Lynn Sigler (The Sopranos) and J. Anthony Pena (The Oath), who have been promoted to series regulars as Tonya and Mo, respectively.

What Is Big Sky about?

The official Deadly Trails plot synopsis reads: "Private detective Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), undersheriff Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick), and newly appointed sheriff Beau Arlen (Jensen Ackles) maintain order in Helena, Montana, with their unparalleled investigative skills. But when a local backcountry trip led by charismatic outfitter Sunny Barnes (Reba McEntire) goes awry, the trio faces their most formidable mystery yet – in which no camper can be trusted and where danger lurks around every jagged rock and gnarled tree."

The trailer, meanwhile, sees McEntire's character giving an introduction to the part of Montana where Big Sky Season 3 is set. She says: "Welcome to Montana. a place where the horizon never ends, full of friendly folk just trying to do right.

"But in the untamed wilderness you never know what's going to be coming around the bend. One thing's for certain: once you set foot in this place you may never want to go home again...and you might not."
