Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Jumps on Stage to Cardi B at Rally in Viral Video

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, can be seen jumping up and down on stage during a political rally on Saturday to rapper Cardi B's song "Enough" in a viral video posted to social media.

The congresswoman attended the Bronx rally for Representative Jamaal Bowman, a New York Democrat who is going up against the more moderate Westchester County Executive George Latimer. Bowman and Latimer are running against each other in this year's primary for the state's 16th Congressional District in which Bowman is the incumbent.

A clip, posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday afternoon shows Ocasio-Cortez walking on stage and then jumping up and down as the Cardi B song plays, with some of the lyrics being: "Me verse you and you know who they pickin.'"

Some of the words had to be censored as the song's lines include curse words. For example: "Ho*s better lower they tone when they spittin'. B*tches is washed, soap on the dishes," the music blasted. "They was just in my DMs, ain't no trustin' these sl*ts. I'm about to call up Diamond, b*tch, knuck if you buck."

The congresswoman in the video can be heard saying among cheering, "Let's go Bronx! Are we ready? Are we ready? I can't hear you! Are you ready to fight? Are you ready to take this borough back?"

The viral video has over 3 million views as of Sunday morning. Newsweek has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez's press office via email for comment.

Ocasio-Cortez was joined by Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who caucuses with Democrats, in backing Bowman. Sanders has been campaigning on left-wing positions, including the denouncement of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

During the rally, the congresswoman defended Bowman's position on the Israel-Hamas war after he faced accusations he was antisemetic and said, "We know that the absolute leveling of Gaza is being paid for with the funds that are being kept from our health care, our schools. We cannot support that anymore. We can't. It's not extreme. It's not fringe. It's not bigoted to want everybody to be protected."

A spokesperson for Latimer's campaign told The New York Times: "Jamaal Bowman's divisive and dishonest attacks, combined with his antisemitic dog whistles, are why voters are turning against him in droves."

Bowman has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, raising concerns about Israel's ground offensive. Latimer, meanwhile, has established himself as the more moderate, pro-Israel candidate, voicing support for its military following Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack.

Latimer is ahead of Bowman in multiple polls, with a June 11 Emerson College survey of the New York 16th Congressional District Democratic Primary finding 40 percent of voters supporting Latimer and 31 percent supporting Bowman, with 21 percent being undecided.

The rally on Saturday attracted dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters calling Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman out for their endorsement of President Joe Biden and his administration. Some have criticized Biden's stance on the ongoing war, with Republicans calling on him to show more support for Israel and Democrats encouraging the president to call for a ceasefire.

"These are the people who call themselves our allies. We are holding them to the standard that they set — that they claim to set — for themselves," said Nerdeen Kiswani, a founder of the pro-Palestine group Within Our Lifetime who organized the protest, the Times reported.

Sanders told the crowd at Bowman's rally: "This election is not about Jamaal versus Mr. Latimer. This election is about whether the billionaire class and the oligarchs will control the United States government."
