Moorehaven man faces 7 charges after crash kills two in Lehigh Acres

Released from the hospital, a Moorehaven man faces seven charges linked to the Sunday crash that killed two in Lehigh Acres.

Florida Highway Patrol reports Jimmy Randall Roberts Jr., 34, was driving an SUV west on State Road 82 at a high rate of speed, approaching Sunshine Boulevard. An 18-year-old Lehigh Acres woman attempted to turn left off SR82 onto Sunshine, when Roberts' SUV crashed into the car, killing her and Roberts' passenger, a 35-year-old Lehigh Acres woman.

Two men and a teen, 34, 19, and 17, all of Lehigh Acres, riding with Roberts suffered critical injuries, troopers said.

On Friday, Florida Highway Patrol said the exhaustive criminal investigation remains ongoing. They arrested Roberts upon his release from Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers.

He faces:

∎ two counts of vehicular homicide,

∎ three counts of reckless driving with serious injuries,

∎ driving with a suspended license or revoked causing death, and

∎ and driving with a suspended license as a habitual traffic offender.

Troopers said he was taken to Lee County Jail. He had not been processed as of early Friday afternoon.
