William H. Sampsel, 72, a longtime Florida resident, formerly of Tennessee and New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 28, 2024. Born on November 4, 1951, in Ashland, OH, Bill led a rich and diverse life.

Bill was a proud United States Army Veteran who served during Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star with Valor, Infantryman's Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Bill was one of many men affected by agent orange. His many sacrifices for our county will never be forgotten.

Bill was a skilled painter, holding both a contracting license and a background as a builder. His artistic talents graced many homes and spaces throughout his career. Beyond his professional life, Bill was an adventurer at heart. An avid skier, he explored slopes around the world, embracing the thrill of the mountains.

His love for the water extended beyond the snow-covered peaks. Bill was the captain of his own vessel and was a Master Diver, diving into the depths of the ocean to discover its hidden wonders. He reveled in white-water rafting, the rush of the rapids echoing his zest for life.

Bill’s passions weren’t limited to the outdoors. He found joy in coaching his kids’ football and wrestling teams, instilling discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship in young athletes. In his later years, he discovered a new passion: poker. Bill’s strategic mind and competitive spirit made him a formidable opponent at the card table. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Angeline (Sampsel) Stackhouse and three brothers, Randy Stackhouse, Lewis Stackhouse and Rodney Stackhouse.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Casperson-Sampsel; five children, Tabitha A. Sampsel, Scott M. Sampsel, Rachel Sampsel-Smith, Loren M. Farley and Richard J. Casperson; three siblings, Brenda Stackhouse Elliott, Jacqueline Stackhouse Shoemaker and Charles James Elliott; as well as several adored grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Bill’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at a dear friends home, 3391 Heron Landing Circle, St. James City, FL. The United States Army will be presenting Military Honor's promptly at 6:30 PM.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to Tony and Donna Perillo, his beautiful family and the poker family for all their love and support.

He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of adventure, creativity, and resilience. Bill Sampsel will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.
