Watch trailer for Brad Pitt's "F1" Formula One movie partially filmed in Daytona Beach

We’re finally getting a glimpse of Brad Pitt’s new Formula One movie, aptly titled “F1,” that caused such a stir when the Hollywood A-lister spent time in the Daytona Beach area filming scenes earlier this year.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Apple Original Films just dropped the first official trailer for “F1,” the action film starring Pitt as ex-Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the sport and partners with and mentors a rookie teammate played by Damson Idris.

Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo round out the cast for the racing film that was partially filmed at Daytona International Speedway and other locations in Volusia County.

Bardem (“No Country For Old Men”) will play the leader of the film’s fictional APXGP race team.

The Formula 1-based movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”) and includes seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton as a producer, according to industry trade publication Variety.

It previously filmed on location at multiple F1 race weekends in 2023, including November’s Las Vegas Grand Prix.

“We need to build a car for combat,” Pitt’s character states gravely in a scene featured in the preview clip. Asked about safety, he responds, “Who said anything about safe?”

Pitt ignited major buzz when he arrived for filming in Daytona Beach

Pitt’s presence in town was all the buzz in January when he arrived with film crews to work at Daytona International Speedway during the run-up to the famed Rolex 24 endurance race in January.

In addition to the Speedway, the movie crew also was spotted filming scenes at the landmark Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach, as well as Christina’s Coin Laundry next door.

From the first look at the trailer, there’s plenty of racing action, but no obvious signs yet of the scenes filmed at the popular New Smyrna Beach restaurant, which was gutted by an overnight fire in March.

In addition to Daytona International Speedway, the project also filmed on location at multiple other F1 race weekends, including the Las Vegas Grand Prix and British Grand Prix events in 2023.

Variety reports that “F1” is slated for international theatrical release on June 25, 2025 and North American release on June 27, 2025.
