NBC Universal, Inc.

A pedestrian has serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Hamden on Tuesday morning.

It happened on Brooksvale Avenue near Farmington Canal Linear Park shortly before 8 a.m.

In a tweet, Hamden Fire Department said a pedestrian was struck and was under the vehicle.

Police said the pedestrian suffered serious injuries, but was conscious and alert. The person was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Cyclists and runners who frequent the trail said they feel it is over safe but they have noticed drivers who speed through the area.

“In general, I feel safe on the large path however at the intersection it's for sure a little bit worrying because we don’t know the speed of the cars that are coming, we have to slow down quite a bit," Daphnee Lamarre said.

Police have not said if speed was a factor in this incident.

Brooksvale Avenue was closed from Whitney Avenue to Still Hill Road while police investigated. It reopened around 11:30 a.m.
