Man shot, killed near hospital in South San Jose, suspect at-large

A man was shot and killed near a hospital in South San Jose Thursday morning, and the shooter remained on the loose Friday, according to police.

The shooting happened at about 4:50 a.m. in the 5900 block of Liska Lane, which is near Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center. Responding officers found the victim behind the wheel of a vehicle that had crashed into a home, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the man had been shot while driving.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators later found a second victim, a female, also suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

Police had no suspect information, and homicide detectives were investigating.

It was the 18th homicide in San Jose this year, police said.
