If you're even a little familiar with her work, Nashville electronic musician Eve Maret probably strikes you as someone who commands her space with ease — both the physical space she’s in and in her role among her community of artists. For years, she’s made it clear that she’s passionate about making art on her terms. But that strength is something Maret developed over a long time, through a lot of hard work. Her new single “My Power” is about that process.

“As a young person, being in toxic situations, I had a habit of projecting ideals on to people and situations that were not healthy,” Maret explains in a recent Instagram post about the song. “After doing a lot of work on myself, and continuing to on a daily basis — going to therapy, making music, journaling, being sober, having the support of wonderful, wonderful friends and family — I am now in a place where I have the confidence to assert myself and to use my power.

“Because I’m the only one who can truly protect my energy. No one else can do that for me. I am responsible for my trauma and I am responsible for my healing.”

Today, “My Power” is out, and we’re very pleased to premiere the music video Maret made for it in her home studio. It’s a relatively simple setup, with one camera facing Maret as she dances, decked out in a steampunk costume complete with a fiber-optic whip, lit by the lighting rig she uses for live performance. But it’s extremely effective in carrying the message, as the short but intense track rockets by and Maret sings, “If you cross the line / You'll get burned.”

Find “My Power” on your favorite streaming service, and keep up with Maret on Instagram for more news. She’s got some tour dates coming up in the U.K., but you can see her at East Nashville's Emerson Hall on Saturday as part of the six-hour Nashville Drone event.
