Twenty-five years ago, Nashville was thirsty for local beer options. Between 1994 and 2009, just a handful of brewing companies had applied for wholesale brewing permits through the Metro Beer Board. Between 2012 and 2015, the board saw an explosion, with 42 businesses applying for permits. Applications since have leveled out a bit, with applications in 2018 dropping to just five.
