Coral Club Sunliner

Coral Club's Sunliner cocktail

If you’re like me and ignored your emails over the long holiday weekend, you might be a little behind with your planning for some upcoming food-related events. Fortunately, I’m back on the job and wading through the mailbox for you, and there are some interesting options coming up over the next few days.

First off, if you were checked out you might have missed the opening weekend of Coral Club, but they’d be happy to see you anytime. The new East Nashville cocktail bar at 604 Gallatin Ave. is in the former home of stalwarts like Steve’s Restaurant and Bar, POP and Otaku Ramen.

The venture is a project from a quartet of longtime hospitality and cocktail veterans: Aaron and Matthew Izaguirre, Kristopher Esqueda and Brice Hoffman. Promising “cool, calm, organic interiors" and a "stately stone bar, and open-air rooftop,” the bar wants to be an urban, coastal-inspired oasis in the heart of the East Side. (Read more from my colleague Margaret Littman, who spoke with the Coral Club team while they were preparing to open.)

The menu offers hand-crafted cocktails and nonalcoholic options, along with an extensive wine and beer list. Elevated bar snacks are also available, ranging from black truffle popcorn, a Marcona almond and olive mix, tinned fish with Spanish peppers and a lavash cracker, to a meat and cheese plate.

Drop by and check out their rooftop and airy sun parlor soon!

Future of Food Conversation Series

The Nashville Food Project will present the latest installment of their series of discussions addressing the local food system on Thursday, May 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at their headquarters at 5904 California Ave. Titled “The Future of Food: Moving from Food Apartheid to a Future of Food Justice,” the presentation will feature a panel discussion of local thought leaders addressing the issues surrounding the establishment of a just and regenerative food future for the city.

The event is free, but they would prefer that you RSVP in advance so they can have a head count. The panel discussion will be followed by time for Q&A and an opportunity for community conversation and networking.

Paseo South Gulch

Finally, the upcoming Paseo South Gulch development across from Arnold’s at 620 Eighth Ave. S. is preparing to open soon, and it will be home to new outposts of Barista Parlor, Maiz de la Vida, The Catbird Seat and The Patterson House, joining Two Hands and Blind Barber, which are already open.

To celebrate the upcoming additions to the buildings, Paseo South Gulch will throw a block party on Saturday, June 1, from noon until 5 p.m. The event will feature live music on Carter Vintage Guitars’ deck, tacos from Maiz de la Vida, free coffee from Barista Parlor and tours of some of the other businesses in the development. Local vendors Amelia’s Flowers and Ranger Stitch will showcase pop-up stores, and Carter Studios will offer an “acoustic yoga” class at noon. (Bring your own mat.)

I’m thinking that a brunch at Arnold’s followed by a tour of the new spots across the street sounds like a great way to pass a Saturday!
