Drift Poolside

Even if your own apartment/condo/home pool doesn’t plan to open until Memorial Day, there’s some other cool pool news around town. First off, Drift Nashville near Nissan Stadium at 10 Interstate Drive is ready to open their outdoor area Poolside this weekend on Sunday, April 28, with a free pool party open to locals and guests alike.

The laid-back pool club will offer food provided by masa master Edgar Victoria working out of his Alebrije food truck, which will be parked permanently adjacent to the pool deck. He and his staff will be providing the comestibles for bathers so they don’t have to drip their way through the lobby going forward, and on Sunday he’ll be one of the highlights of the big grand opening celebration.

Victoria will be joined Sunday by a market from Be Good Market, a Lolu ice camp, a DJ set by Dame Luz and drinks from High Rise Beverage Co. and Komos Tequila from noon until 5 p.m. on the pool deck. If you’re interested in attending, you can RSVP here. Tell your apartment manager who won’t unlock the pool cover to go jump in the lake. You’re going to Poolside!

(Be sure to check out the Scene's recent feature by Margaret Littman about The Sun Room, Alexis Soler’s latest vibey bar and restaurant venture at Drift. Just note that it’s not going to be the sort of spot where guests will want to come schlepping into wearing a damp bathing suit — Soler offers a much more refined experience than that.)

White Limozeen

In other pool news, White Limozeen, the rooftop bar adjacent to the Pepto-pink pool atop the Graduate Hotel, has been nominated for a prestigious award at the upcoming Tales of the Cocktail Foundation’s Spirited Awards. Thanks to an elevated bar program led by Demi Natoli, White Limozeen is in the running for the incredibly competitive Best U.S. Hotel Bar category. Taking this post full circle, the Spirited Awards have also nominated Alexis Soler’s Old Glory as one of the Best U.S. Bar Teams in the Eastern Region.

I know people always say it’s an honor just to be nominated, but in this case, it really is! Generally these national mixology awards skip over the flyover states, with only an occasional spotlight shone on New Orleans bars, so to have two Nashville bars in the running means that the drinking public is taking notice.

Speed Rack

For even more proof of Music City’s ascendant position in the world of mixology, Speed Rack is bringing their high-speed bartending competition back to Nashville at White Limozeen for preliminary rounds and in the ballroom of the Graduate for the finals of a battle between an exclusively women-and-femme slate of competitors from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 6. The event raises money for breast cancer education, prevention and research, and you can get in on the fun with a $25 general admission ticket to watch these talented professionals shake and stir up some great drinks.
