ODESSA, Texas — A collision at the intersection of FM 554 and Cottonwood Road resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries Tuesday afternoon.

The crash, which occurred at 1:15 p.m. on June 25, 2024, involved a 2023 Chevrolet 1500 and a 2017 GMC Acadia, according to the Texas Highway Patrol. The Chevrolet, driven by 37-year-old Ashley Danielle Hillin of Midland, Texas, was traveling west on Cottonwood Road when it disregarded a traffic control device and struck the GMC, which was traveling north on FM 554.

The GMC was driven by 61-year-old Elizabeth Lucille Ertel of Andrews, Texas. Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

A male minor passenger in the GMC, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by an EMS medic. Three other passengers in the GMC, including 41-year-old Angela Nichole Garcia of Gardendale, Texas, and two male minors from Odessa, Texas, sustained serious injuries.

The vehicles came to rest in a field at the northwest corner of the intersection. The crash is currently under investigation, and no further information is available at this time, stated the source.

The incident is being investigated by Trooper North of the Texas Highway Patrol in Odessa.
