It's not been the hottest summer so far in London, but on the days we are lucky enough to get blue skies and sunshine, city dwellers know there's no better place to cool off than at a lido.

For those looking to make the most of the sunny weather, why not head to your local pool - or better yet, take a dip in style right in the city centre at Hyde Park's Serpentine Lido. Nestled in the stunning Serpentine Lake that stretches across the Royal Park, the lido offers swimmers a chance to cool off in its refreshing waters.

One of the highlights of swimming at the Serpentine Lido is undoubtedly the view. Mature trees line the lake's edge, providing a picturesque backdrop. From the outdoor pool, you can also admire other beautiful London landmarks, such as the Serpentine Bridge. Built in the 1820s, the bridge separates Kensington Gardens from Hyde Park.

Adding to its charm, the lido was the venue for the triathlon and marathon swimming events during the London 2012 Olympics. The lake itself was created at the behest of Queen Caroline, wife of King George II, who wanted to enhance the beauty of the park.

Her vision has certainly been realised, with the spectacular lake attracting both tourists and locals alike, including members of the historic Serpentine Swimming Club. According to the club, records show that it held its first Christmas Day race back in 1864, and it has been a major part of the park's history ever since.

The lido is open to the public at weekends from May onwards, and weekdays between June and September. An adult pass costs £7.50 for a full day, and children under 15 for just £3.75. After a refreshing swim, why not extend their day out with a scenic boat ride or picnic by the lake's edge?

Don't forget your swimsuit and make your way to Hyde Park to enjoy some of the best experiences London has to offer.
