A dedicated Domestic Assistant who works at Southend Hospital is still shining bright – with her polishing and dusting - as she reaches her 90th birthday.

A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) at a hospital has claimed a top award, thanks to her excellent commitment to making a difference in patient care.

A baby who suffered severe burns from a mug of hot drink, just one day after her first birthday, has now fully recovered thanks to the dedicated care by the staff from St Andrew’s Burns Service at Broomfield Hospital.

Preparations have begun for the new £8.7million Radiotherapy Unit extension and equipment at Southend Hospital, with specialist blocks starting to be craned into place.

An eight-week period of consultation has begun about specific health services in mid and south Essex.  

The local NHS is seeking views and ideas on proposals for future arrangements for inpatient services at our community hospitals, freestanding midwife-led birthing unit, and other patient services provided at St Peter’s Hospital, Maldon. 

The consultation will run from 25 January to 21 March 2024.

Ahead of World Cancer Day (Sunday 4 February) we spoke to nursing and support staff at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to get a snapshot of the care and support they help provide to patients during their cancer journey.

February is National Heart Month and a team that has helped improve the lives of over 340 patients has been shortlisted for a Global Cardiovascular Award.
