Charity golf day raises thousands for Stroke unit
Golfers grabbed their clubs and took to the fairways to raise over £4,000 for the Stroke unit at Broomfield Hospital.
The money will help provide more supportive seating, wheelchairs and hearing amplifiers for patients receiving stroke rehabilitation care.
The annual day of golf attracted more than 100 players and was hosted by Graeme Aitkens, Lead Clinical Site Manager at Broomfield Hospital. He has been organising the event, alongside Dan Young, since 2017.
Graeme said: “The support we have from so many golfers is great. There’s a real mix of abilities and it’s lovely to see people return year after year or new faces helping raise money for Broomfield Hospital. It’s great to know that a fun day has such a positive impact on patients and we are already planning the next one in 2025.”
Previous charity golf days have contributed to a relative room fit out, a bladder scanner and sensory equipment to benefit those living with dementia.
Judy Harper-Bright, Matron on Broomfield’s Stroke unit, said: “We are so thankful for Graeme, Dan and their players’ support of the Stroke unit. The funds raised will help us provide more rehabilitation items for patients following a stroke, so will make a real difference to their care and recovery.”
