Tornado confirmed from last week’s storm in Michigan’s Thumb

A severe thunderstorm last Friday, July 5 did produce a tornado in the tip of Michigan’s Thumb.

The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-0 tornado - the weakest level of tornado rating - in Huron Township in Huron County. Huron Township is located in the very northeast corner of Huron County in Michigan’s Thumb. Huron Township is situated between Port Hope and Grindstone City, along the Lake Huron shoreline.

The EF-0 rating is the lowest wind speed rating for a tornado. The Friday afternoon tornado had estimated peak winds around 75 mph.
