Today’s rain, thunderstorm timeline across Michigan

A rainy Monday is in store for much of Michigan today as scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms continue throughout the evening. Severe weather is not expected.

The active weather pattern that we’ve been experiencing seems to continue for the foreseeable future as multiple upper-level disturbances move through the area. Ongoing showers and thunderstorms in Lower Michigan will continue to track northeast this morning, with a potential break in activity during the late morning/early afternoon hours.

The activity will pick back up during the mid-afternoon, lasting throughout the evening. Most of the state will see scattered showers and storms apart from the northern edge of the Upper Peninsula, where dry conditions may win out for the day. The rain will exit the state overnight, with areas farther south and east drying out a bit later than areas farther north and west.

Future radar from 10am EDT Monday to 4am EDT Tuesday

HRRR future radar shows morning rain showers exiting to the northeast, with a break possible around noon. More showers and thunderstorms form during the afternoon, continuing through the evening.NOAA

A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out, but severe weather is not anticipated, although one or two storms could contain some gusty winds. Rainfall totals will be variable depending on where individual cells track, but around two tenths of an inch of rain is looking like a good bet, with locally higher amounts possible.

Rainfall totals for Monday into Tuesday morning

HREF has a quarter inch of rain falling for most of Michigan today, with locally higher amounts possible.NOAA
