These neighboring countries have gone at it many times over the years at the Euros, with France coming into Tuesday 4-1 against Spain. La Roja came out with a win in the quarterfinals in 2012 on their way to their last championship.
Both sides also come into the semis after a couple of tense, but exciting matches.
After finishing atop Group B, Spain lambasted Georgia in the Round of 16 to advance to another quarterfinal. They squared off with host Germany last Friday, and though they struck first early in the second half, they gave up an equalizer late in regulation. Though Germany came out strong in extra time, Mike Merino’s header in the 119th minute gave Spain the 2-1 win. This is the fourth time in the last four tournaments La Roja has made it to the semifinals, though they lost to the eventual champions in Italy three years ago. They are trying to get back to the championship match for the first time since in 12 years.
While France is back in the quarterfinals for the first time in eight years, they have certainly looked very mediocre so far. After going 1-2-0 in the group stage, scoring just twice before finishing second in Group D. They used an own goal to beat Belgium in the last 16, and failed to score against Portugal in 120 minutes during their quarterfinal match last week. However, even with Kylian Mbappe subbed out during extra time, Les Bleus came way with the win in penalties. France will now try to advance to the final for the first time since losing to Portugal in 2016.
All-time, Spain is 16-7-13 against France.
