The good times continue to roll for the Tigers. After winning the final three games of their road trip, all against the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit got off on the right foot against the other team from Ohio on Monday night. A solid start from Keider Montero, while Jake Holton and Shelby Miller coming up clutch out of the bullpen, they were able to keep the Guardians off the scoreboard. Mark Canha’s base knock in the bottom of the eighth drover in Jake Rogers for the game’s lone run, as the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 win.
It is the longest win streak for the Bengals since they started the season 5-0. There is still a lot of ground between them and a playoff spot, as Detroit is fourth in the American League Central, 14 games back of the first-place Guardians, and seven behind the Boston Red Sox for the last Wild Card spot.
Cleveland has now split its last 10 games and has to be wary of the Minnesota Twins, who are slowly closing in. Heading into Tuesday, the Guardians’ lead over the Twins is at five games.
Probable Starters
- DET: Kenta Maeda (2-5, 6.71 ERA)
- CLE: Ben Lively (8-4, 3.14 ERA)
