A former Detroit Lions cornerback has been suspended eight games without pay for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, the league announced Monday.
Cameron Sutton, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be eligible to return Oct. 29 following the Steelers’ Week 8 game against the New York Giants.
Sutton, 29, started every game the Lions played last season, recording 65 total tackles (50 solo), one interception, six passes defended, and one forced fumble.
He figured to enter the 2024 season in the mix for meaningful snaps amid a revamped Detroit secondary, but the Lions released him in March after an arrest warrant was issued in Florida relating to domestic abuse.
Sutton eventually turned himself in on March 31 after being wanted for weeks by police. He is accused of beating a woman at a home in Hillsborough County, Florida before fleeing the scene.
Sutton was one year into a three-year, $33 million deal he signed with the Lions in 2023. He signed a one-year contract with the Steelers last month.
He spent the first six years of his career in Pittsburgh.
