Alligator, dog hadn’t eaten for weeks after owner died inside Michigan home

DETROIT – An alligator, a dog and their deceased owner were recently discovered inside a home during a wellness check in Detroit, officials said.

Detroit Police officers were sent to check on a resident who hadn’t been seen or heard from in weeks, FOX 2 Detroit reports. They found that the homeowner had died, leaving behind an illegal alligator and a dog.

The animals hadn’t eaten for weeks after their owner died, the report said. The four-foot-long, female alligator, dubbed Izzy, was caged during that time.

Izzy is being relocated to the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary near Athens, the report said. Details about the dog were not provided. The identity of the decease was not released; foul play is not suspected.
