July 24: OF to get more days off to rest legs
Greene returned to the Tigers' lineup at DH after getting July 23 completely off, his second game out since his All-Star Game appearance last week. He started 94 of Detroit’s 97 games before the break, entered two of the other three as a reserve and played the full game in 91 of them. He has played a good amount in center field lately, and he played three games on artificial turf last week between the All-Star Game in Texas and two games in Toronto.

“We’re going to see a few more routine days off and be a little bit more responsive,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “One, we have some capable guys that, when they’re fresh, need to play. And two, he only missed one game in the first half.”

Wednesday marked Greene’s 100th game played this season, the most in a season in his Major League career. His only other season with that many games played was 2021, when he played 124 games between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. When Greene is healthy, he is Detroit’s most productive player, and the Tigers are focused on keeping him that way.

“You have to accept it,” Greene said. “I can be frustrated about it, because that’s who I am. I hate missing games, and I hate not being out there with the boys. But it is kind of part of it.”

July 23: RHP diagnosed with mild right shoulder strain
The news was relatively encouraging on Olson, who returned to Detroit for tests after he left his start last Saturday at Toronto. Manager A.J. Hinch characterized the injury as “mild” Tuesday morning during his weekly interview segment on MLB Network Radio.

That’s relatively good news for the Tigers, in that he won’t need surgery to recover. On the other hand, there’s no clear timetable for when he might be able to return.

“He’s got a shoulder strain,” Hinch said later Tuesday. “So what that means is there’s going to be a period where he’s not throwing, and there’s going to be a throwing progression.”

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP (right shoulder strain)
Expected return:
TBD
Olson, who left the Tigers' 7-3 win over Toronto on July 21 with right shoulder soreness, has a mild shoulder strain after further examination in Detroit. The Tigers still do not have a timetable on his potential return, but he, at least, will not need surgery. (Last updated: July 23)

RHP (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Hopefully late July
Mize is playing catch daily and working through a running progression, though he's not yet cleared for all-out running. He has yet to throw off a mound since the injury. Mize is expected to rejoin the Tigers for their upcoming homestand, which begins on July 26. (Last updated: July 23)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

OF (lumbar spine stress fracture)
Expected return: TBD
Carpenter began a running progression in addition to hitting activities over the All-Star break. He said ahead of the break that he had felt good in recent days, and the hope is he's getting closer to a rehab assignment. His move to the 60-day IL doesn't affect his timeline for a return. RHP (left hip, right forearm)
Expected return: 2025
Gipson-Long underwent left hip labral repair surgery on July 9 after returning to Comerica Park for a checkup with doctors three months after his Tommy John surgery. He has been rehabbing daily in Lakeland, Fla. The Tigers transferred him to the 60-day injured list on May 7 to open a 40-man roster spot. (Last updated: July 9)
