Mel B had fans in stitches with her brutally honest review of the food on today’s episode of Saturday Kitchen.

The 48-year-old was the celebrity guest on the BBC show hosted by chef Matt Tebbutt. Though things started off nicely, with Matt telling Mel his favourite Spice Girls song was Mama, it all went downhill when Matt started cooking for Mel - who it’s fair to say didn’t mince her words at his choice of dishes.

Host Matt and his other guests in the studio struggled to keep a straight face as Mel turned her nose up at what she was served. Celebrities on the show are asked to choose their food heaven or food hell before they go on, which for Mel was her favourite, ox cheek and sprouts.

But she was left spitting out her food when she received her version of food hell – stodgy carbonara. Digging in, she bluntly asked Matt: “So this is bacon, and you didn’t cut the fat off?” When the chefs insisted they did, she said: “No you didn’t, look at that!” The next clip showed Mel spitting her food into a napkin as she rolled her eyes at the camera. A disappointed Mel then asked: “Please cook me the beef after,” as the credits rolled on the screen.

As Matt burst out laughing during his piece to camera, he told Mel: “We’re finished!” Undeterred, she got up from the table and ran towards him and said: “No you haven’t finished. I want you to cook the beef!”

Earlier on in the episode, Mel acted as Matt’s assistant when he cooked pancakes with oyster sauce, but again his ingredients were not to her taste as she said: “I’m not sure about the oyster sauce though, it’s an acquired taste.” Trying it, she said had the entire studio in giggles as she said: “I just don’t like oyster sauce, so you’ve kind of ruined that. I think without the oyster sauce it would be really nice.”

In another clip, Mel was served a salad and asked: “What’s it called, that thing with the really bitter taste?” Matt replied: “Oh that’s fennel and chicory. Delicious.” But again, straight-talking Mel wasn’t a fan and declared it was “horrible”, adding: “I just want some nice iceberg lettuce. Keep it simple with salad cream.’

Fans took to Twitter, formerly known as X, to praise Mel’s honesty. One wrote: “Mel B was simply iconic on Saturday Kitchen earlier.” Another wrote: “Mel B causing absolute carnage today – just what a live programme needs #SaturdayKitchen.” A third chimed in: “I f***ing love Mel B! Brutally honest and unscripted! Yasssss! bring her back!”

A fourth said: “There should be a red button for #SaturdayKitchen extra. I’d pay triple to see what Mel B is doing in the kitchen with Matt right now! ‘NO! We’re NOT finished, you’re cooking me the beef!” While a fifth added: “I officially love Mel B. Someone honest and funny on a cooking programme at last. The other cook and wine expert also getting in on the act and living it up. Matt just wanted it all to end!”
