Actress Jodie Comer has been reportedly tipped to play child serial killer Lucy Letby in a new TV drama.

The drama is said to be in the discussion stage and is likely to be aired on ITV. But it seems Jodie, 31, who is famed for her role in Killing Eve, may have some competition on her hands as Games Of Thrones star Sophie Turner is also in the running to take on the lead role. The drama will explore the harrowing story of the neo-natal nurse who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Lucy was jailed for life last year.

Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is believed to be the one behind making of the drama. His works also include ITV's Trigger Point and the BBC's Bodyguard. Jed is reportedly working alongside hospital consultant paediatrician Dr Ravi Jayaram who exposed Lucy's killing spree between 2015 and 2016, at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester. Speaking about the upcoming TV project, a source told The Sun: "Jed sees this as an important story that should not just be chronicled in a drama but also explored. It aims to try to explain how her crimes could have gone on for so long and how others — particularly Dr Jayaram — tried to act when suspicions were raised."

They added: "Bagging a high-profile name to play Letby would help give the show the attention it deserves too, but it’s not a role to take lightly." Lucy raised an application to appeal her sentence back in February but it was rejected. The convicted murderer is due to face a retrial on a single count of attempted murder of another baby in February 2016. As yet it remains unknown whether the drama will be a one-off special or a series.

Jodie is certainly no stranger to playing hard-hitting roles as she won critical acclaim for her role in the drama Help, which told the story of the lack of support care homes received during the Covid pandemic. When it comes to Jed's other titles, his creation of Trigger Point caused such a stir when series two came to an end. So much so, fans across the UK rushed to X, to beg him to pen a third series.

Addressing the possibility of another series, he previously said: "I don't think you can predict whether shows will be long-running, all you can do is do the best possible job with each season and hope it connects with the audience. If we're fortunate enough that season two is viewed with the same enthusiasm as season one then it would be brilliant if we could do season three, but we're not thinking about that yet. We'd love season two to be a hit and to have opportunities to do other seasons, but no one's counting their chickens."
