I'm A Celebrity fans have branded this year's show a "fix", claiming it's the only reason former UKIP leader Nigel Farage is still in camp.

The 59-year-old GB News presenter has somehow managed to dodge five evictions following the public vote. Last night's episode saw former EastEnders actor Danielle Harold, 31, receive the least votes from the public and was the fifth star to leave the jungle.

But with Farage not facing eviction once, fans have started speculating about how the divisive Brexit campaigner seems to be relatively popular with viewers. Many have surmised the reason could lie in the fact ITV forked out a record-breaking £1.5m for Farage's participation in the show – the highest fee ever paid for a celebrity.

The average fee for a public figure is paid is usually somewhere between £30,000 and £600,000. Suspicious I'm A Celeb fans have taken to Twitter, now known as X, to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "If Nigel wins, it's a complete fix just so itv can make the most of the money they spent on him." Another speculated: "It's a fix they are keeping him in to get what they paid for. Wouldn't be surprised if a percent of others' votes get directed towards him so he's saved."

A third wrote: "I'm suspecting a fix at this point by @ITV. There's no way Nigel hasn't been in the bottom two yet, there's been rumours that ITV don't feel they've got their money's worth from him. He cost them over a million, they are keeping him in until the end! FIX!."

While someone else added: "ITV have to be rigging to vote to get their money's worth from Nigel are surely nobody is voting for him #ImACeleb." Another echoed the sentiment, commenting: "I think the fact ITV paid £1.5mil for Nigel Farage is a big part of why he’s not been voted out yet, they’re getting their money's worth."

And although some fans suspect foul-play, Nigel has been hard at work rallying the troops before his well-paid stint in the jungle. He teamed up with his bosses at GB News to create a promo video, begging viewers to vote for him.

Dressed in a suit against a jungle backdrop, he made a joke about Brexit, saying: "I'm asking you to vote remain, no seriously, vote for me to remain in the jungle. Now the easiest way to do it is to get the I'm A Celebrity app that gives you five free votes or you can phone or text."

The video is prominent at the top of the site, with a shorter video created for TikTok and other social media platforms, in which he embarrassingly brands himself "Mr Brexit". He says: "Yes it's me, Mr Brexit, saying vote remain, please vote for me to remain in the jungle."
