Coronation Street was full of explosive scenes on Wednesday night as Carla Connor learnt she has a secret nephew, when new character Bobby, played by Jack Carroll, arrived on the cobbles.

Bobby revealed he is the son of her killer brother Rob Donovan. Just as Carla was dealing with her heartbreak after her split from Peter Barlow, who left the soap on Boxing Day, Bobby showed up and dropped the news they are related. Bobby delivered a sob story, only for his dad to make contact with sister Carla and reveal what is really going on.

Carla explained that he can stay with her for a few weeks but in upcoming scenes, realises he could be sticking around when his possessions are dumped on the street via a delivery van courtesy of Bobby's mother. Carla is annoyed but realises she can't leave him without anywhere to stay, leading to stepson Simon Barlow offering up his room. But Bobby is soon causing trouble leaving Carla unimpressed.

Teasing what soap watchers can expect from his character, Pride of Britain winner and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Jack, 24, told Mirror and other press: "I'm in the factory. Luckily not modelling any of the merchandise as of yet - I don't know what they've got in store in the future! I'm in the factory and Carla's managed to swing me a job in the factory, so there's a lot of me causing chaos in there as well. So that's been really good fun."

Jack also teased a romance for his character, saying: "He's got his eye on somebody, I don't really think I'm allowed to say who that is yet; but it's definitely something I think we've got planned for the future. That'll be good fun as well, because that's just another aspect of his chaos-causing behaviour, which is fun to play!"

Elsewhere, Bobby will take part in a huge storyline for 2024, he said: "I only found out yesterday the kind of nuts and bolts of what the story is, and it's very, very exciting. I would even go so far as to say blockbuster.

"There's always a little bit of apprehension, because I'd only been there a week or a couple of weeks, and then I found out that I was going to be a part of this massive storyline.

"But I think after that dissipates a little bit, then you're just very excited to get stuck in, and that's where I'm at now, I just can't wait to get working and expand on the character, and see what craziness they put me in."
