Britain's Got Talent runner-up Jack Carroll has joined the cast of Big School.

The stand up comedian - who reached the final in the 2013 series of the ITV talent show but lost out to Attraction - will appear in the second series of the BBC One comedy.

Pride of Britain award winner Carroll - who suffers from cerebral palsy - will play a school boy who is taken under the wing of Catherine Tate's Miss Postern.

Walliams told The Sun: "I am excited to be welcoming so many talented new faces to the show - and it's great to be working with Jack."

The sitcom stars and is written by BGT judge and all-round funnyman David Walliams who plays Chemistry teacher Mr Church and also stars comedian Catherine Tate as French teacher Miss Postern.

Philip Glenister stars as PE teacher Mr Gunn, alongside Daniel Rigby, Joanna Scanlon and Vicious actress Frances de la Tour who stars as the headteacher Ms Baron.

Former Holby City actor Jimmy Akingbola will also join the cast for the new series to play Mr Dalton - a hunky teacher who gets the female staff members' pulses racing.
