Alison Hammond has opened up on getting quite a different 'welcoming' experience from a fellow The Great British Bake Off star.

The presenter, who has just joined the team for the Channel 4 baking show as it kicked off this week, opened up about how judge Paul Hollywood had treated her to a lift to get to filming one day. Yet rather than enjoying a plush lift to the Bake Off tent with the baking guru, Alison was left swearing to never step foot in his car again as she vowed "I'm never going to do it again".

Appearing on The One Show today (Friday 29 September) alongside co-star Noel Fielding, Alison revealed that judge Paul Hollywood gave her the 'VIP treatment' on her first day of filming but it didn't quite leave her with the desired effect.

Speaking to presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, she explained: "So on the first day he asked 'Do you want a lift to the hotel?' so I said 'Yeah, great' and he's got a really nice car - a little bit of a Lamborghini - and I've never been in one of them before."

Noel interjected: "It was like Batman's car wasn't it?" Alison laughed before continuing: "It was like Batman's car. I mean it was a struggle for me to get in first of all. I had to get myself into the car first, it's like it's on the floor. So unlady-like, my legs were wide open.

"I finally got in and I said 'Where shall I put my bag? I've got my bag with me' and he just got someone else to take it. So I got into the car, let's just say I'm never going to do it again, it was the most frightening ride I've ever had in my entire life. It was so scary." The behind-the-scenes admission comes as the first episode of The Great British Bake Off aired this week on Channel 4, where Alison has joined to take over from Matt Lucas.

Alison landed the presenting role after she wowed bosses following her stint on the show in 2020 for Stand Up 2 Cancer. She competed against other contenders during her time on the show, such as Strictly Come Dancing star Joe Sugg, Alex Jones and singer James Blunt.

When she competed, she said: "I do think that good food and good baking comes from the heart - and I’ve got a lot of heart. I love chocolate brownies. Any time I go out and about, try a brownie, it never compares to my brownies. I know that sounds really big-headed. "Oh my god, this is just going so well. Things are just running so smoothly for me, this is actually boring TV. I’m literally a natural baker - and a natural eater as well."

The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4, Tuesday, 8pm
