The various school holidays offer families plenty of opportunity to head on a fun holiday throughout the year.

However, with the whole world to choose from, trying to decide where to go on holiday can feel like quite a daunting task.

To give you a helping hand, we've highlighted some of the best destinations for each of the school holidays; February half term, Easter and May half term, the summer holidays, October half term and the Christmas break.

We've looked at some of the destinations where you'll find hot and sunny weather, as well as some of those bucket-list worthy hotspots.

Oh, and because we know that the school holidays can often mean high prices, we've also flagged where you could find some great deals.

February half term

If you're after hot and sunny weather, there are plenty of great winter sun destinations - Thailand is still in the heart of its dry season, while destinations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Morocco have hot weather before the sky high (and sometimes unbearable) temperatures from the summer months.

February can also be a fun time to visit Disneyland Paris as it coincides with a host of special events including the park's new Frozen Celebration. (We know that this isn't always a cheap getaway, so to help out we've searched out some of the best Disneyland Paris deals worth having on your radar).

Of course it's still winter, so if you're not too fussed about hot and sunny climates, then ski holidays could be just the thing, as February falls within the ideal ski season.

Easter and May half term

If you're looking to go abroad in Europe, then head to the likes of the Canary Islands, Portugal or the Italian lakes where the temperatures start to get hotter, but not so hot that exploring becomes a chore.

For something really special, you could consider a getaway to Orlando and finally tick it off the bucket list.

What's great about May is that it brings about the two bank holiday weekends, and if a long weekend is on the cards you don't need to go far; the UK has heaps of brilliant family-friendly destinations.

Summer holidays

France, Spain, Greece, Turkey and Croatia are all ideal beach holiday destinations over the summer as they boast hot temperatures, sandy shores and heaps of family-friendly resorts.

Although holiday prices do spike over the summer, there are often airlines and firms which still host sales as well as free kids' places, so it is possible to go abroad without breaking the bank.

October half term

October half term can be an ideal time to go on European city breaks as the weather tends to still be quite balmy, for ideal exploring conditions.

Destinations such as Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam and Paris offer up everything from culture and history to fun attractions for the kids, and around this time a lot of travel firms and airlines host deals and sales so there is a way to do a holiday on a budget.

Canada and the USA can also be ideal as the summer temperatures have dropped but are still fairly warm if you want to explore the parks and cities.

Christmas holidays

Thinking of foregoing the annual family reunion, and jet-setting off for some winter sunshine instead?
