A marathon doesn't appeal to everyone. But a marathon where you get to stop to drink wine and eat cheese?

That's one which caught our attention.

In fact, the Marathon du Medoc in France offers the chance for runners to do just that!

The race takes place through a host of picturesque vineyards and estates (including a castle or two), but there aren't just water stations for those who need refreshments.

Instead, you'll find wine tasting sessions, cheese sampling, not to mention the option to try local ice creams, grapes and even oysters.

Oh, and you have to do it all in fancy dress.

Participants are given six hours and a half to complete the course, which the organisers say should be enough time to enjoy it even for a beginner.

Of course drinking responsibly is important - let alone if you're doing a marathon - but it does make for quite the race for foodies.

As well as the food and drink, there'll be ample opportunity to take in the breathtaking views, discover historic sites and even enjoy live music as you run from live bands.

The winners for the male and female categories will be rewarded with their weight in Medoc wines, while the first three in each category will also receive a case of fine wine.

And yes - there are of course prizes for the best fancy dress.
