Andy Murray and Jamie Murray win doubles to put Great Britain on the brink against Japan

The brothers beat Yasutaka Uchiyama and Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 53 minutes at the Barclaycard Arena

Andy and Jamie Murray put Great Britain on the brink of Davis Cup victory over Japan by maintaining their perfect doubles record together.

The brothers beat Yasutaka Uchiyama and Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 53 minutes at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.

The pair have now won all five Davis Cup matches together, including in the final as Great Britain won the trophy for the first time in 79 years.

Leon Smith's team now have two chances tomorrow to seal the win. First Andy Murray will play Japan's No 1 Kei Nishikori and then Dan Evans will take on Taro Daniel.

Andy Murray, who has a 5-1 winning record against Nishikori, said: “He is the world No 6 – one of the best players in the world.

"But I am playing well. Hopefully I can put in a good performance tomorrow and seal it but if not, Dan is capable of winning his tie as well.”

Smith said: “They had a couple of matches last year but I think it is going to be difficult. Kei is a really good player.
