Chris Chester insists he hasn’t suffered sleepless nights ahead of Super League’s Friday the 13th relegation shoot-out .

Chester’s Wakefield are one of four clubs that face the drop with the quartet locked together on 20 points. They host bottom club London while Hull KR travel to Salford and Huddersfield entertain Catalans, with all four knowing that victory would secure their safety.

Trinity have a history of last-gasp escapes having beaten Castleford on the last day in 2006 and won the first Million Pound Game nine years later. And Chester says recent performances have kept him at ease ahead of the four-way scramble.

He said: “I’ve slept great the last couple of nights.

“I came home from Warrington on Friday and the wife was a bit concerned after the way things had gone. But it’s the most positive I’ve been for a long, long time.

“I think we’ve been good the last three or four weeks - we were good against Warrington, excellent against Wigan and played really well against Hull KR. If our performances had been different then I’d be a little bit more worried.

“I saw the game between Hull KR and London and was even more positive that we’ve got more than enough to get the two points this week.”

Danny Ward’s Broncos handed themselves a last-gasp lifeline with Jay Pitts’ dramatic late try in that game, and both Pitts and Alex Walker are set to join Wakefield next season.

But Chester doesn’t expect any split loyalties from the duo.

He said: “They’ve got a job to do and you’ve got to pay them credit for the way they’ve gone about their business. I expect them all to play as hard as possible.

“Wardy said that they’re the team that never goes away and they are. We need to be on it from the start of the game and I’m pretty sure we will be.”

Chester also maintains he won’t be tempted to keep track of the latest scores at Huddersfield and Salford.

He added: “I’ve learned my lesson from last week. I had our stats guys at the side of me and he kept refreshing it. When it went to 12-0 to London I told him to turn it off, I can’t look at that.”

Elsewhere St Helens can complete a record-breaking season at the top by winning at Hull FC while Leeds say farewell to retiring multiple Grand Final-winning duo Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Carl Ablett at home to Warrington.
