Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May twice denied F1 reporter Martin Brundle's attempts to engage in conversation on the Silverstone gird.

Brundle's walk along the grid at the start of Formula 1 races has become a staple of Sky's coverage. In doing so he often manages to chat to A-list celebrities exploring the paddock in addition to the sport's giants. The former racing driver has produced some iconic moments interviewing the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Roberto Carlos, while receiving rejections from the likes of Megan Thee Stallion.

Ahead of the race start at Silverstone, another rejection was on the cards for Brundle, who looked to strike up conversation with May. Having been denied once by the 76-year-old musician, Sky Sports' reporter went in for a second attempt.

"See if I can just get a... I don't want to be rude or interupt too much," Brundle said as he looked to navigate himself into position. "He's got Evan there telling him about the car and about this glorious-looking Mercedes down there. We'll try and poke around.

"Brian are you up for a chat with Sky? No? No worries, you don't need to know anything, just nice to see you on the grid. Thank you very much, no problem at all. We don't want to make life difficult for him."

Fortunately for Brundle, he had more luck with other paddock guests. Brundle managed to get a cuddle from Sam Ryder and also chattled to the likes of Rowan Atkinson and England cricketer Stuart Broad.

Brundle enquired to Atkinson about whether famous character Mr Bean would enjoy raceday. "Well he [Mr Bean] would enjoy it very much because he’s a car enthusiast as you know," explained the Blackadder actor.

"I think Mr Bean would enjoy it. But anyway, it’s fantastic to be here. I’m a guest of George Russell. It wasn’t planned for me to be here on a weekend when he got poll but here we are."

Jokingly prodded by Brundle about his name dropping, Atkinson teased back: “As a matter of fact, I’m a guest of George Russell, that’s how privileged I am! May the best man win.”

Broad's allegiances differed from that of Atkinson however. "Team Lando and Oscar, the only Aussie I support in world sport," said the former Nottinghamshire bowler.

"I know they're hoping for a dry race, because if they get a bit of rain it throws it open a little bit and they've got a quick car. I know they're hoping for the blue sky to stay."

The likes of Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah, rugby star Owen Farrell and Chelsea captain Reece James were also in attendace.
