Premier League clubs in European competitions are set for a relentless 2022-23 season as the games come thick and fast.

With an earlier than usual start and a later finish, the unprecedented campaign will include the Qatar World Cup between November 21 and December 18, after which the clubs will simply pick things up and go again, with the fourth round of the League Cup scheduled a week before Christmas and then the Premier League starting again on Boxing Day.

The Champions League is also not immune from change here either, with the group stages crammed in between early September and early November, instead of the usual September to December run.

All of which added an extra element of spice to Thursday's Premier League fixtures reveal, with fans looking to seek out whatever advantages their team have over rivals, or potential concerns in the month ahead.

One element that fans were quick to focus on was the Premier League matches around the Champions League games, with likely title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City facing tough tests either side of their European commitments.

Liverpool's run was quickly, and rather mischievously, branded as a 'nightmare' by some, with the Reds facing matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham in days that follow a Champions League fixture, with all but the City game coming away from home.

What is being overlooked here is that Liverpool's opponents will all have faced a European game in the week as well, and so may have their own tiredness issues before facing the Reds.

As for City, they'll face tricky looking away fixtures against Wolves and Leicester - both of whom will be relatively fresh - in the immediate aftermath of Champions League games, as well as games against fellow European qualifiers Tottenham and that trip to Anfield.
