Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher was encouraged to down a beer live on TV by rowdy Borussia Dortmund fans.

The former defender has travelled to Germany to be part of the CBS team for the American network’s broadcast of Dortmund’s Champions League semi-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain. While he had a job to do during the game, he ensured to soak up the atmosphere before kick-off.

Speaking surrounded by a bunch of fans decked out in yellow, Carragher said: “Just got outside the stadium. We are at Signal Iduna Park with all of the Dortmund fans. They absolutely adore me!

“Come on, let’s get a picture! And I’m going to get a pint. I need a drink to cool me down, to calm my nerves for the big game.”

After being passed a pint, Carragher started guzzling the beer backed by a soundtrack of Dortmund fans chanting “Drink, drink, drink”. The clip - shared on social media - ended before Carragher had finished his pint.

The Liverpool icon’s pre-match exploits were not the only entertaining situation that he was involved in. Carragher forced Peter Schmeichel to walk out of an interview after breaking into a rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ - Dortmund and Liverpool’s pre-match anthem.

The Dane responded: “I said to Jamie before, finally there’s a crowd who can sing that song!”. Schmeichel then added: “What I can guarantee is when you hear that song tomorrow, it will be sung a lot better.”
