Kylian Mbappe was forced to help out Euro 2024 stewards after a fan ran onto the pitch to take a selfie with the France superstar.

The French captain was concentrating on helping his country battle back against Spain in the Euros semi-final on Tuesday night when a supporter invaded the pitch in the second half. Mbappe appeared baffled when the fan approached him, before managing to grab a selfie with the 25-year-old.

The new Real Madrid signing then appeared annoyed and encouraged the fan to get off the pitch - and he was wrestled by a number of stewards. Footage on social media showed the fan being dragged away by a group of stewards, with BBC deciding not to show the incident during their coverage of the match.

The incident, which occurred with France 2-1 down against Spain, was just one standout moment in a wild match between the two European rivals ultimately won by the Spaniards. A chaotic first-half saw Randal Kolo Muani give France a shock lead on eight minutes.

But Spain hit back - and in some style. Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal, 16, scored a stunning strike 13 minutes later, from outside the box, to level things up.

The youngster picked the ball up, found space from distance and then let fly with a spectacular effort that left French goalkeeper Mike Maignan with no chance.

In doing so, he became the youngest ever goalscorer at the Euros. Dani Olmo then gave Spain the lead with a deflected effort on 25 minutes to cap off a remarkable comeback. Mbappe has endured a tough Euros this summer having scored just one goal - with France now dumped out of the competition.

Amid his woes for his country, Mbappe is now preparing for life with a new club after leaving PSG to join Real Madrid. And the France striker wants to be one of a kind at Real Madrid - and not viewed as the successor to the Bernabeu’s last great superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal forward spent nine years in the Spanish capital, breaking all kinds of records before his departure in 2018, and the arrival of Mbappe this summer is viewed in the same bracket in terms of a high-profile player signing at his peak.

Mbappe has insisted he respects but does not envy Ronaldo’s achievements but wants to create his own history for club.

The fan took a selfie with Mbappe

“I think it is about appreciation rather than envy, what he was, what he is,” said Mbappe. “I like to admire the great player, there will never be another Cristiano Ronaldo. He has shaped football and has inspired generations.

“I am following my own path; my dream of playing at Real Madrid is becoming a reality. I hope I will be one of a kind at Real Madrid but it will be different. His CV speaks for itself and I have total respect for him.”
