The wife of jailed Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman made a rare social media posting when she wished her husband a "Happy Father's Day" after she was released from jail in the US.

Emma Coronel, 34, had pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges and was sentenced to three years in jail in November 2021, although the sentence was later reduced.

Her husband, however, is still serving a life sentence in a supermax jail in Colorado when she took that opportunity to wish him a happy Father's Day, and also shared a picture of one of the couple's daughters.

Her Instagram account emmacoronel9oficial has managed to notch up almost 70,000 followers even though she has only posted six messages.

Emma had twin daughters with girls born in August 2011 in Lancaster, California. The jailed druglord sent a handwritten letter requesting his wife and their two daughters be allowed to visit him in the maximum security prison last month on April 10.

El Chapo Guzman, 66, was found guilty in 2019 of running the Sinaloa cartel. The Mexico-based transnational criminal organisation is estimated by US law enforcement officials to have smuggled more than 1,000 tonnes of cocaine, cannabis, methamphetamines and heroin into the US.

And the son of notorious drug lord El Chapo is said to be "addicted" to watching videos on TikTok. Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar is the leader of the Los Chapitos crime syndicate - an offshoot of the Sinaloa Cartel that emerged after his father was seized back in 2016.

Ivan and three of his siblings have been accused of flooding US communities with the deadly opioid fentanyl. One of the brothers, Ovidio, was arrested for his role in 2023 but the others remain at large.

Journalist José Luis Montenegro claims in his new book 'Los Chapitos: Criminal X-Ray of the Sinaloa Cartel Heirs' that Ivan's guilty pleasure is scrolling endlessly on video sharing app TikTok at night.
