A former aide of Melania Trump said she believes the former First Lady will never leave her husband Donald Trump.

Stephanie Grisham made the comments in conversation with CNN's Erin Burnett on Monday after an explosive day in court as Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen took the stand. During his testimony, Cohen divulged information in relation to the former President's relationship and Melania's responses to his scandals.

Ms Grisham told CNN  that Melania "knew who she married." The former president is accused of falsifying business documents in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.

The claims allege he paid off adult actress Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged sexual encounter - and former Playboy model Karen McDougal over an alleged 10-month affair. Trump denies all claims of an affair, any sexual relations with Ms Daniels and Ms McDougal and says the charges against him are politically motivated.

Ms Grisham explained: "Could Melania Trump be angry right now about all of this being out there and about their personal lives and it’s humiliating? Absolutely on a personal level.”

Trump’s former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen testified in the trial this week that Trump appeared unconcerned by his wife’s potential response to learning of an alleged affair, and more concerned about the campaign. Cohen said he asked Trump how the story might impact his marriage with his wife, Melania.

Cohen said Trump told him, “Don’t worry,” adding: “How long do you think I’ll be on the market for? Not long.” Cohen said that comment led him to conclude that “this was all about the campaign.”

Ms Grisham added: “I think that comment [from Trump] to Cohen rang absolutely true. She’s happy, she’s got a very good life. She’s not going anywhere, that’s been proven. And so I absolutely believe he said something like that to Michael Cohen.”

Cohen, meanwhile, returns to the stand Tuesday as the prosecution's star witness. “Everything required Mr. Trump’s sign-off,” Cohen said during his testimony on Monday.

Cohen linked Trump directly to the payments and helped illuminate some of the drier evidence such as text messages and phone logs that jurors had already seen. Trump's lawyers will get their chance to begin questioning Cohen as early as Tuesday, where they're expected to attack his credibility — he was disbarred, went to prison and separately pleaded guilty to lying about a Moscow real estate project on Trump's behalf — and cast him as a vindictive, agenda-driven witness. The defense told jurors during opening statements that he’s an “admitted liar” with an “obsession to get President Trump.”
