An image shows the moment a male Jet2 passenger was escorted off a flight and arrested on suspicion of a sexual offence on board.

The Jet2 flight, LS789, had taken off from Edinburgh Airport at 7.50am on Tuesday and was due to arrive at Ibiza airport. However, the flight had to be diverted to Bristol at about midday.

The crew onboard the flight on Tuesday raised concerns regarding a passenger who required medical attention upon landing at Bristol Airport, EdinburghLive reports. Police also said that while attending, officers subsequently arrested a male passenger on suspicion of a sexual offence while onboard the plane.

It's believed that the police presence was in relation to an alleged sexual offence on board

Pictures shared with EdinburghLive showed one male being surrounded by four officers with several police vehicles at the scene as the flight landed.

Avon and Somerset Police said that the male passenger has been released on conditional bail and enquiries were ongoing.

A police spokesperson previously said: "A Jet2.com flight from Edinburgh to Ibiza was safely diverted to Bristol Airport this morning (Tuesday 4 June).

"The crew raised concerns regarding a passenger, who has received medical attention upon landing. Attending officers subsequently received information, prompting the arrest of a male passenger on suspicion of a sexual offence, who has been taken into custody. We can confirm this relates to an alleged incident onboard the aircraft. Enquiries into what happened are at an early stage and continue."

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “We can confirm that flight LS789 from Edinburgh to Ibiza diverted to Bristol Airport earlier today, so that police could offload a passenger following an incident onboard. As this is a police matter, we cannot comment any further at this stage.”
