Being able to say you had enjoyed a cold pint with the King is a claim to fame many royal fans would be thrilled to boast of.

So when one man saw his opportunity while Charles was conducting an engagement in his town, he grabbed at the chance to ask if the royal would like to join him for a refreshing beverage - and Charles's witty response had the crowds around him reportedly cracking up.

Then-Prince of Wales, Charles was visiting Birmingham when the chance encounter took place, but little did the crowds around who had been so amused by the senior royal's joke know, that wasn't the only interaction Charles had with the man that day.

The encounter took place back in August 2022, just weeks before the late Queen died. He was visiting Birmingham while the Commonwealth Games were taking place, and was chatting with well-wishers in Victoria Square when local man, Daniel Walker, passed by on his way to meet his pals at the pub, and he took his chance to invite Charles along.

"Charles, Charles, are you going to go for a beer?" Daniel was recorded saying. At first Charles didn't quite make out what he was being asked and answered, "What?"

Daniel didn't hesitate to repeat his question, which caused Charles's eyes to seemingly light up and respond wryly, "Where?" and the well-wishers around to burst out laughing. Daniel replied that he didn't mind where they went, answering: "Anywhere, Albert's Schloss?" with Charles replying warmly, "Thank you so much."

However, that wasn't the end of the pair's encounter, the Daily Record reports. "I walked around and I could see his security guard wanted to speak to me," Daniel explained, "I introduced myself and he said if you hang out here you can chat to him. I waited around five minutes and Prince Charles came over and asked me what I did and shook my hand.

"He said 'Good luck with your ventures'. It's changed my view of Prince Charles. I thought the Royal Family was stuck up. I am all about laughs and jokes. My mates thought I was lying."

While Daniel didn't get to enjoy a cold pint with the future King on that summer's day, he certainly left with a story to regale his pals with at the pub.
